DIY Hairstyles for the Races

This is the last of the blogs I’ll be putting up while Olivia is away – which is lucky because I have no idea what she is talking about here…

Handy hints’ for classic and simple hair styles for the races!!

Although you will be wearing a headpiece, it is very important to make sure your hair is done. For those entering fashions on the field, having your hair up is usually a must. Whether it is a bun, a ponytail or classy up do, it is very important to have your hair looking sleek and well groomed.

If you are unable to have your hair professionally done by a hairdresser then don’t fret. I have compiled a few hairstyles that should be achievable at home. As I am constantly attending race days myself I have quickly learnt the art of a few classic hairstyles that go with almost any piece of headwear. Hopefully this will help you get that classy race day hair-do you want, without having to pay salon prices.

The Pony Tail.

A timeless classic, the ponytail is top of the trend list this spring. No other hairstyle can look so elegant, yet be so easy. Whether it is a sleek pulled back pony or a soft wave, the ponytail is very easy to achieve and very effective.

To achieve, put your hair in a ponytail with a hair tie where you wish to locate it. Take a half-inch section of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the elastic once or twice. Tuck the remaining hair section into the underside of the elastic. Wrapping hair around the elastic conceals the hair-tie, making your side ponytail look polished and glamorous.

The Ballet Bun.

There are many kinds of ways to do a bun. Some are easy, and some are extremely hard. If you are working by yourself it is hard to create a masterpiece on the back of your head when you cannot even see it. I myself have no formal training in hair, nor am I very good at styling my own or anyone else’s for that matter.

However, I have been lucky enough to have the gorgeous Breanne alongside me, who is not only a hairdresser but owns her own salon. Breanne has opened my eyes up to fabulous object that is PADDING J Padding comes in any forms, my personal favourite being the circular padding or donut. It costs around $15 from a hairdressing supplier and comes in different colours depending on your hair colour.

If you put your hair in a ponytail and tease the hair a bit, you can then place the padding around the ponytail and drag it over and secure with bobby pins, making sure to cover the padding so it cannot be seen.

If you are new to doing your own hair, try and perform the hairstyle before as a trail to see how it will look. You will also need to make sure you have all the correct tools like bobby pins, hair ties, padding and hairspray.

If you are still a little unsure on what to do then my best advise from here would be to Google the style to wish to achieve. There are many tutorials and videos on YouTube that give you detailed step-by-step tips on how to achieve the perfect do.
